Department of English, since its inception in 1968, has been at the forefront of academics. The applied pedagogy of English interknits language and literature with the real life situations beyond the classrooms and expose the students to the practicalities of life. The department realizes this objective through various teaching tools involving teachers and students. The teaching - learning partnership is corroborated with the involvement of students in various creative activities like curriculum based exhibitions, skit performances, language activities, etc. The indispensable use of Information Communication Technology augments the learning interest of the students of English. The students are put to language-centered employment and soft skills training with the objective to make them self-sustainable. The department has been providing platform to several national, international conferences, workshops and training events. It is staffed by teachers with pedagogic professionalism and expertise.

To build the rich-poor and rural-urban divide through language empowerment of the students from the unprivileged background.

• The Department of English aims to promote the study of English Language by developing all the four language skills and extend the understanding of how English language is intertwined with the various Corporate and industrial needs.
• To transform the students into rational human beings with an inquisitive and argumentative bend of mind through Literary, Theoretical and Linguistic teaching.
• The Department also envisions the healthy and positive cultural growth of the students for the better social, economic, political and cultural environment in the country. We believe in the multiethnic, multicultural, multi religious texture of our country. Accordingly, we strive to shape and reshape the attitudes of the students compatible to these diversities in order to strengthen the democratic spirit of our country.
