Department of Kannada at Al-Ameen Arts, Science, and Commerce College was established in the year 1968 with its Founder Head of the Department Prof Lalithamba.

Kannada language is official and administrative language of Karnataka. Kannada is second oldest language of the Dravidian language family and one of the oldest languages of India . Kannada was the court language of some of the most powerful empires of south and central India. Kannada was the language of chalukya dynasty Rastrakutas Vijayanagara empire Hoysala dynasty. Kannada literature began with kaviraja marga of Nrupatunga of 9th century A.D. Kannada is language of huge cultural heritage. Lots of monuments in southern part of India have inscriptions in Kannada. Kannada script is widely used for writing Sanskrit texts in Karnataka. Tulu, Konkani, Kodava , havyaka etc language also use alphabets of Kannada.
